Where to Celebrate New Year's Eve

Welcome in 2013 at one of these great events nearby Upper Marlboro.

 

From large-scale, themed, multi-room extravaganzas to more subdued music and art events, the Washington, DC area has a number of New Year’s Eve parties scheduled, with something for everyone.

If you like the more traditional big crowd, big event type celebration, “Big Night DC” at the Gaylord National Resort at the National Harbor may be the destination for you. With 15 themed party areas, five dance floors, more than a dozen bands and DJs, VIP rooms and a number of full and open bars, this six-hour party could see more than 7,000 attendees!

Cost:  Tickets are currently $149.99 per person for the main event, $199.99 for the VIP area and include drinks, food, a fun casino lounge—meaning no gambling—and music.

Another event that is sure to be on the raucous side is “New Year’s Eve Live!” at the newly-opened Maryland Live! Casino at Arundel Mills Mall. Prix fixe dinner at The Prime Rib, all you can eat buffets and a 90’s-themed bash with the band Rollerblades are all part of the planned festivities. There will also be prize drawings throughout the casino.

Cost:  Prices range from the $34.99 steak and seafood buffet, to $75 for entry to the Ram’s Head Center Stage to see Rollerblades up to $150 for dinner at The Prime Rib.

The Fillmore Silver Spring welcomes back The Roots for a New Year’s Eve extravaganza, starting at 9 p.m.

Cost: Tickets are $86 per person.

Annapolis’ Rams Head On Stage will feature The Return – a Beatles tribute band for their NYE celebration.  Tickets include appetizers, a gourmet dinner buffet, dessert, a champagne toast and the music.

Cost: $114 per person.

Greenbelt’s New Deal Café offers up the blues with the Andy Poxon Band as part of their NYE celebration.  The event runs from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. and features a special menu and champagne toast at midnight.

Cost: $50 per person.

If outdoor celebrations are more your speed, Brookside Gardens and Merriweather Post Pavilion are great choices.

Midnight at 7

Symphony Woods at Merriweather Post will once again host Midnight at 7, their annual New Year’s Eve fireworks display at 7 p.m. From 5-7 p.m. you can walk through the displays of holiday lights, enjoy food and drink from local vendors and enjoy dancing, music and other entertainment.

Cost: $20 for one person, $40 for a group of three, $50 for four, $60 for five and $70 for a group of six.

Brookside Gardens

Brookside’s famous Garden of Lights will be open until 9 p.m. for early New Year’s Eve merriment in a mellower mold. After you walk the light garden paths, you can enjoy music, crafts and some giveaways.

Cost: $20 per car.

Looking for a family friendly, alcohol-free event? Annapolis’ Children’s Museum will once again host their “Awesome Children’s Fun Time” starting at 3 p.m., culminating with fireworks at 7:30 p.m. If you have older kids, continue the fun with “Dancing under the Stars” from 8 p.m. to fireworks at midnight.
