Here are some fun things to do around town with the family this weekend.

 

Life of a Civil War Soldier: Muster & Music

Where/When: Surratt House Museum, 9118 Brandywine Road, Clinton 20735,   Saturday, July 14, 4:00 p.m.

Why to go:  Join us at Surratt House Museum as the 3rd U.S. Regular Infantry reenactment group will demonstrate camp life while guides in period garb lead tours through the historic house.

An additional treat will be a musical program at 4 pm with Gilmore’s Light Ensemble presenting A Soldier’s Life as Told by Music.

Montpelier Summer Concert Series, 34th Annual: APPALOOSA

NCM Imagination Playground Play Date

Why to go:  Children can experience a fantastic day of playing and building with NCM’s new Imagination Playground. The opportunities are endless as kids use their imaginations to build whatever they choose out of foam blocks. With reconfigurable loose parts, Imagination Playground allows children to constantly change their environment and design their own course of play.

Please note that the Launch Zone is designed for a family experience, and, unfortunately, cannot accommodate organized groups of five or more. For hours, call the Launch Zone at 301-686-0225 or visit the Museum’s website.

OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE SUMMER JAM | FEATURING THE ATOMIC SWING CLUB

Where/When: Hyattsville Municipal Building, 4310 Gallatin Street, Hyattsville, MD 20781

Why to go:  Enjoy a unique blend of jazz, lunge, blues, rockabilly and big band from the Atomic Swing Club.

Event includes delicious food for sale (burgers, chicken and hot dogs) provided and prepared by Outback Steakhouse of Hyattsville, a beer and wine garden, musical entertainment, the ever popular moon bounce and Mandy the Clown and her very talented face painter.

This is a rain or shine event! In the event of inclement weather, the Jam moves into the multi-purpose room.

31st Annual Montpelier Invitational Sculpture Exhibition

Where/When: Montpelier Arts Center, 9652 Muirkirk Road, Laurel 20708, June 7–August 19, Gallery Hours: Daily, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Why to go:  Enjoy an exhibition which features the work of recent area MFA graduates.

Anacosta River Boat Tours: Weekday Boat Rides

Where/When: Bladensburg Waterfront Park, 4601 Annapolis Road, Bladensburg 20710, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays, 12 noon-12:45 pm

Why to go:  Join a naturalist on our 40-seat pontoon boat for an environmental or historical tour of the scenic Anacostia River.

Groups of 12-40 people or more may schedule their own environmental or historical tour.

Persons 16 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations required.

Anacosta River Tours/ Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens Tours Canoe Tours

Why to go:  Join a naturalist for a paddling excursion down the Anacostia River.

Persons 16 & under must be accompanied by an adult.

Washington Nationals and M-NCPPC Baseball Clinic

Where/When: PG Sports Park, 13200 Woodmore Rd., Mitchellville 20721, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Why to go:  Boys and girls ages 7-15 are invited to attend these FREE baseball clinics. Clinics will be conducted by former major league baseball player and local high school coaches!

You may pre-register by calling 301-446-6800 or click HERE for online registration.

The first 100 registered will receive 2 tickets to a future Washington Nationals game. There's no limit on the number of clinics you can attend. Bring your baseball equipment (glove, bat, shoes, hat and water) for active participation.

Whether it’s Date Night Friday or Family Sunday, pack your picnic and chairs, and meet us at the Plaza’s big screen for a FREE evening of ocean breezes and all-ages fun!

Bring your lawn chairs, but coolers filled with alcohol or food will not be allowed.

Cluster & Afro Blue Vocal Band

Where/When: Strathmore, 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda, MD 20852, 8:00 p.m. Saturday.

Why to go:  Co-presented by CASA After wowing week after week on NBC's The Sing Off, the Afro Blue Vocal Band returns to its home town.

First formed at Howard University, this 10-member vocal jazz a cappella ensemble has won multiple awards and performed alongside such names as Smokey Robinson, Geri Allen and Bobby McFerrin.

This a cappella evening also swings across the globe, bringing one of the best vocal groups in Italy - five young musicians who met at the Niccolai Paganini Conservatory of Music in Genoa. Cluster won millions of fans in its successful run on X Factor Italy.
