Mocha Moms Inc. is a national support group for mothers of color, many of whom who have chosen not to work full-time outside the home to devote more time to their families. The organization has been featured in major news publications and on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Come see what all the buzz is about.
Be part of the founding chapter in Northern Prince George's County, where the membership is a blend of stay-at-home, work-from-home, full- and part-time working moms and "Mochapreneuers."
Members participate in weekly support group meetings, monthly social events and community service projects.

Mocha Moms does not discriminate as the commenter wrongly suggested. The organization was founded here in Prince George's County, Md., by a small group of mothers of color, and today this national organization consists of mothers of all colors and walks of life.

Well I'm white and I'm glad there's a group like this. I'm guessing you have no idea how it feels to be a minority MAH.

I think it is great that the group doesn't discriminate, as I think I would like to join as a white person. However, I might feel just a bit more comfortable joining if the description of the group, instead of saying for moms of color, stated that it was started by moms of color. I too would like to know if I would be the only white person there.

I don't think it should matter if you are the only white person there. This is a positive group. I'm black and I know for a fact there are things I will do in life where I am the ONLY black person. That is the life of a minority in general. It doesn't stop anybody from doing anything and it shouldn't matter. We live it everyday.

Great point Tiffany. As with any other support group, (Alcoholics Anonymous for instance) individuals participate because of their similarities not their differences. However, the current group description could possibly be perceived as less than inclusive; despite the verbal assurance that all are invited to participate. A minor revision to the group description may be a good idea.
