With Veterans Day approaching, Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel has announced the boutique lifestyle hotel's participation in the Hotels for Heroes program to honor those who serve in the United States Military and Armed Forces.

The new Hotels for Heroes program allows current customers to use earned rewards points toward the stay of a military service person or his or her family.

Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel has long supported the American heroes who have served or are serving in the U.S. military. Earlier in June, the hotel hosted PFC Timothy Hall, a Purple Heart recipient who was critically injured in a mortar attack in Afghanistan in June 2010.

These individuals put their lives on the line for us and we are proud to be able to offer a program like Hotels for Heroes, giving guests the chance to give back to these American heroes, stated General Manager Robert Allen.

Fisher House Foundation's Hotels for Heroes program was founded to bring comfort to wounded, injured or ailing military servicemen and women undergoing medical treatment away from home. Renaissance customers will be able to donate their Marriott Rewards points in increments of 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000 points, providing a free hotel room for military service members in need or for a loved one visiting them. Marriott Rewards points can be earned at 13 hotel brands in more than 3,600 locations in more than 70 countries.

Marriott International officially announced its participation in the program in July. Renaissance's parent company, Marriott International, was the first hotel company to participate in the program created by bipartisan legislation authored by Congressman Ruppersberger and Senator Cardin, and modeled after the national Hero Miles program, which provides free round-trip airfare to wounded warriors traveling to receive care through the military health system, as well as to friends and family visiting them, all made possible by frequent flyer miles donated by the American public.

Hotels for Heroes is administered by the Fisher House, a nonprofit organization that opens its homes to military families visiting their injured loved ones at hospitals across the country.
