Prince George's Community College Students Harlem Shake

PGCC students join in on the Harlem Shake viral video trend.

The U.S. Navy did it. So did the U.S. Army. More recently, University of Maryland students jumped in on the viral video trend of posting short clips of people dancing to Baauer's Harlem Shake. So now Prince George's Community College has their own version. Shot by Wayne J. Bertram Jr., the video features two students dancing in a helmet and WMATA hard hat, before the music drops and a ton of students join in on the fun.

Celebrate Chinese New Year of the Snake, Feb. 10

What Chinese zodiac year are you born under?

A lot of people cringe at the thought of snakes, but if you're born in the Year of the Snake, as described by the Lunar New Year calendar, you are a quick learner, lead by wisdom and intuition. As Americans celebrate 2013, it can be interesting to take a look at what it means on the Chinese calendar.  Followers of the Chinese zodiac believe each person has personality traits similar to the animal character for the year he or she was born. For 2013, the year of the snake, snakes are said to like the best things in life and are mysterious, quiet and deep thinkers. Famous people born in the year of the snake include Oprah Winfrey, Sara Jessica Parker, Picasso, Martha Stewart and Jackie Kennedy Onassis.   Since the Chinese New Year begins …

Prince George's County residents will have the opportunity to chime in and learn more about the national gun control debate Monday night, when the New Deal Cafe in Greenbelt hosts a Reel and Meal event featuring "Living for 32." The movie is the account of a young survivor of the 2007 Virginia Tech mass shootings taking a lead on strengthening the nation's gun-control laws. 2013 Oscar Nominations Have Definite DC Flavor

Nation's Capital features prominently in three Best Picture nominees.

Three Academy Award nominees for Best Picture prominently feature Washington, DC: Argo, Zero Dark Thirty and, of course, Lincoln. While serving as a location for major films is nothing new to Washington, DC, I can't think of another year in which so many DC-centric movies have been nominated. The Washington Post described each movie as "an engrossing, superbly crafted story that plunges viewers into otherwise opaque and unknowable worlds made distant by time, secrecy or both" and believe film attendees will be pleased that the films "enthusiastically celebrate institutions more often mired in dysfunction and public malodor." Argo, the Ben Affleck-directed tale of a CIA mission to rescue Americans caught up in the 1979 Iranian hostage …
