Prince George’s County high schools walked away from the Maryland Outdoor State Championships this weekend with a combined total to 30 state titles, reported the Gazette.
Big winners include Frederick Douglass High school’s Modesty Lorick, who took the county’s first state title with her 2A 100-meter hurdle win; Kyle Smith, who’s heading to Clemson next year, set a 2A meet record in the 110- hurdles with a time of 14.29; and Dr. Henry A. Wise’s Champ Page took the 400 meter race by just one second.
Class 4A, the boys race team at, Wise squeaked ahead of Suitland taking the state title by one point, 60 to 59, while the Bowie's girls captured their first Class 4A outdoor state title in 31 seasons.
Bowie High School’s Antonella Taylor taking home a gold medal in the discus; Largo’s Mohamed Cisse pulled his 1,600 relay team back for a win; and Robert Mercer of Crossland High School netted another win in the pole vault.
