Two Dead, One Person Held, After 'Suspicious' Fire in Prince George's
Police have suspect in custody in deadly fire at apartment building in the 7600 block of Fountainebleau Drive.
Two people are dead and a suspect is in custody after an apartment fire in New Carrollton, according to Prince George's police. The cause of the fire is suspicious, according to Prince George's Fire/EMS.
Fire/EMS units were dispatched around 7:45 p.m. Sunday to the 7600 block of Fountainebleau Drive. Fire was reported showing from a top floor at the rear of the building, according Prince George's County Fire/EMS Chief Spokesman Mark Brady in a news release.
Firefighters found a deceased adult in the apartment where the fire originated, according to Brady. Another person jumped about 40 feet from a top floor balcony at the rear of building and sustained massive upper body trauma, Brady stated. The person was pronounced dead at a trauma center, according to Brady.
Fire damage was estimated at $200,000, Brady said.
Police are conducting an investigation and plan to release more information Monday, according to Christina Cotterman, spokeswoman for Prince George's County police.
The fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes and no other occupants were found in the building, according to Brady. About 50 residents from the fire-damaged apartment building and attached buildings may suffer displacement, Brady stated.
