Now Open in Bowie: Lima's Chicken

The Peruvian chicken restaurant opened in Collington Plaza about a month ago.

Bowie's first Peruvian chicken restaurant, Lima's Chicken, has been open in Collington Plaza for nearly a month, and is getting rave reviews from customers.

"It's programmed in my GPS to come here for lunch everyday," said one patron, who had driven 10 miles out of her way to have lunch at Lima's for a second day in a row.

Through the lunch hour, both carry out and dine in business was steady. Lima's serves charbroiled rotisserie chicken with two sides in prices ranging from $6.25 for a quarter chicken to $15.95 for a whole chicken. Sides include two types of beans, two types of rice, salad, fried plantains, fried yucca, fresh veggies and french fries.

Patrons can also choose from a range of Peruvian specialties, such as anticuchos (beef heart skewers), rachi (beef tripe), ceviche de pescado (fish in lime juice), and parrillada mar y tierra (steak, shrimp and chicken served with potatoes.)

A variety of cheese steaks, tacos and burritos are also on the menu.

Deciding to sample the goods myself, I bought a quarter rotisserie chicken, white meat, which came with two sides—black beans and the highly recommended fried plaintains— for $6.75. Adding in tax and a fountain soda, my meal cost $9.06. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, the beans were tender and the fried plantains did not disappoint. It was so much food I couldn't finish my meal.

Have you eaten at Lima's? What did you get? Will you be back for more? Tell Patch in the comments.

I ate there a couple of weeks ago. I can't remember the name of the dish that I had, but it was good. Chicken and spices over french fries and rice. I thought the inclusion of the "french fries" was odd, but as it turns out, It was terrific. I want to go back and try the rotisserie chicken.

I'm excited that there's a Latino restaurant in Bowie that isn't part a chain like applebee's or chili's. Bowie needs more authentic restaurants. I'm waiting to see if we'll ever have a restaurant like Dona Azucena (a great Salvadoran restaurant in VA and one in Montgomery County that has the best pupusas in the DC area).
