M-NCPPC, School Closings for July 3

Some county parks and schools are still without power.

Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commision (M-NCPPC) has announced that all Summer Playground Programs, Summer Teen Centers, and Therapeutic Recreation day camps held at public school sites will be open on June 3, with the exception of those held at Clinton Grove Elementary, Oxon Hill Elementary, James Duckworth Regional School, C. Elizabeth Rieg Regional School, and Suitland High School.

The following M-NCPPC sites are without power and will be closed today, June 3:

  • Langley Park Community Center and Senior Activity Center
  • Tucker Road Community Center and Ice Rink
  • Glenn Dale Community Center and Pool
  • Hamilton Pool
  • Sugar Ray Leonard Boxing Center
  • Watkins Tennis Bubble and Nature Center
  • Clearwater Nature Center
  • Marietta House Museum
  • Billingsley House

Downed power lines will keep Watkins Regional Park closed through Thursday, June 5 and that evening's concert was postponed until August. The “Terrific Tuesday” event on June 3 was also canceled.

Cosca Tennis Bubble is open, but the park is closed due to downed trees and power lines.

Why is it that for very important public announcements and/or documents of record, that people seem not to use spell check! That is just unacceptable! The blunder I'm referring to is what appeared on facebook, etc., pointing to the misspeling of the word "program," which was printed on 2012 diplomas issued by PG County. With this announcement, the incorrect month printed on a message of importance, as parents need to know whether or not their child's camp is open or closed. Of course, I realize that using spell check in this instance, would not have raised any flags. June is spelled correctly. So in this case, maybe a suggestion would be to review your work before sending. This may seem extreme, however the case can be made of one being conscientious with the small stuff makes one even more conscientious when the big things roll around. Thanks for the correction. Just try proof reading from this point -- Unsolicited advice!
