Largo Ceremony Will Honor Construction Grads

Twenty-four students will be honored at Prince George's County Community College for learning job skills.

Some 24 students will be recognized tonight for completing three months of hands-on construction training through Prince George’s Community College’s TeamBuilders Academy.

The group — including 12 women — learned skills in building maintenance engineering, residential weatherization and property preservation, according to the college. The accelerated adult career-training program matches eligible unemployed Prince George’s County residents with local employers by providing job readiness and occupational trades-related technical skills training.

“We are recognizing 24 participants in the TeamBuilders Academy's fall 2011 cohort for their commitment to training in construction and occupational trades,” Thomisha Duru, director of TeamBuilders Academy, said in a statement. “Traditionally, males have dominated the program by more than 90 percent. We are proud to see women exploring new and sustainable career paths.”
