Henry Wise Senior Recognized for Race Relations

School drama club president recognized for leading diverse drama club at predominantly African-American high school.

Ebony Perry, a senior at Dr. Henry A. Wise High School in Upper Marlboro has been recognized by Princeton University for her work to improve race relations at her school. 

Perry was awarded the Washington, DC Princeton Prize in Race Relations for her leadership of her school's drama club. According to a press release from the Prince George's County Public School system, the Henry A. Wise Drama Club is one of the most diverse student groups in the predominantly African-American school. 

“Ebony’s leadership and energizing personality play a huge role in creating that sense of community,” said teacher Michael Dombroski, who recommended Perry for the award, in the PGCPS press release.

The $1,000 prize is part of a national awards program administered by volunteer Princeton alumni and sponsored by the prestigious university. Each year, the prize committee recognizes students in more than 20 regions across the country who have worked to improve race relations in their communities. 

Perry was presented with the prize earlier this week during a ceremony at the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill.
