Candlelight Vigil To Honor Julian Scholten
Join friends and family on Friday night at Frederick Douglass High School to remember the airman who was killed during active duty.
A candlelight vigil will be held on Friday night at Frederick Douglass High School to remember Julian Scholten, a U.S. Air Force Senior Airman from Upper Marlboro who died Feb. 18.
Scholten was one of four men killed in a plane crash in Africa near Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti.
A memorial service for Scholten was held in Florida because that's where he was stationed, according to Manitia Lane, secretary for the Official Frederick Douglas High School Alumni Association (OFDHSSA).
Lane said Scholten was a 2004 graduate of Frederick Douglas High and is helping to spread the word about the candlelight vigil.
"Here in Upper Marlboro, Julian's friends and family would also like to pay tribute to him," Lane wrote in an email. "He was loved by so many and had such a great heart."
The candlelight vigil will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the school, located at 8000 Croom Rd. in Upper Marlboro.
