Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker says he's pleased with the final vote on a bill that could create a sixth casino in his county.
Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker says he expects a fight over a referendum issue that could result in a casino at National Harbor or Rosecroft Raceway.

It took almost a week to get done but a bill that expands gambling in Maryland to table games and a possible casino in Prince George's County was worth the wait for County Executive Rushern Baker.

"I feel good about where we're going," said Baker early Wednesday, moments after the Senate adopted a gaming bill amended late Tuesday night by the House of Delegates.

"It puts us on the way to not only creating jobs in Prince George's County and the state of Maryland but also revenues for both the state and the county," Baker said.

The bill goes to the voters on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Baker said he expects "a robust fight."

When I voted for Mr. Baker, I did not realize that I was voting for a "Pit Boss" want-a-be! I am so tired about the continuing saga of why Prince George's County needs a casino just as much as hearing about why Annapolis wastes our money we supposedly do not have to pander and ponder the need for more casinos in the state while at least two of them are floundering. I am deeply disappointed with the way our elected officials continue to sidestep the real issues by trying to distract us with smoke and mirrors.

I see it this way. People are going to gamble(just look at our Maryland lottery)anyway. Now we get to keep some of that money right here in the state and the county. Why should we continue to let Anne Arundel county, and the states of WV, DE, NJ and now PA reap all of the benefits. The last time I checked gambling is now legal in Maryland. We need the money and the jobs.

For all of you producing the TV ads stating that a Casino is the worst thing that could ever happen in Prince Georges County, please keep your negative vibes to yourself. It is not needed now, as Rushern Baker is trying to make this good county GREAT.
