Arrest Made in Oxon Hill Murder

Police arrest Benjamin Vance in connection with the murder of James Speaks.

County police officers have arrested Benjamin Vance, 34, in connection with the homicide of James William Speaks, 28, in Oxon Hill.

On May 11 at about 7:04 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 4400 block of Wheeler Road for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers found James Speaks, of the 4500 block of Wheeler Road, in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

Homicide detectives identified Benjamin Vance of the 5200 block of North Capitol Street in N.E. Washington, D.C. as a suspect in this case. Vance was arrested early Friday morning on a warrant and is awaiting extradition back to Prince George’s County, according to police information.
