State, Local Officials to Host Film Screening in Oxon Hill

The Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition will host the Prince George’s County premier of its new documentary film on victims of financial fraud, “Stealing Trust.”

According to a press release, the premier is scheduled for 7.pm., Oct. 18 at the Oxon Hill Public Library in Oxon Hill. Before the screening, U.S. Rep. Donna F. Edwards (D-MD) will speak about the importance of protecting working families in the current economy.

The film is supposed to provide a comprehensive look at predatory lending practices. "Stealing Trust” also captures the voices of the victims and offers a glimpse into the devastation of the predatory lending practice throughout Maryland.

Rep. Edwards will provide introductory remarks at the Oct. 18 screening. State AARP Director Hank Greenberg will address the need to protect access to energy for seniors and low-income families. MCRC Executive Director Marceline White will discuss MCRC’s work to protect consumers and lead a question-and-answer session on the consumer issues most important to Marylanders.

The screening is co-sponsored by State Sen. Joanne Benson, Del. Aisha Braveboy, the Maryland AARP, Councilman Obie Patterson, the Prince George’s County Dept. of Family Services and Advisory Committee on Aging, and the Psi Epsilon Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
