David Christopher Wherley, a Frederick Douglas High School graduate enlisted in the Army in July 1996 and was stationed in and served as an infantry mortar man in Vicenza, Italy until 1999. He graduated from the Golden Knight Assessment and Selection Program and joined the U.S. Army Parachute Team in October 1999.
David served as a Gold Team Demonstrator, free fall videographer, tandem coordinator and media coordinator. Wherley made over 7,500 parachute jumps, while serving over twelve years with the US Army Parachute Team.
Staff Sergeant Wherley’s, awards and decorations include the, Army Commendation Medals (2), Army Achievement Medals (3), Army Superior Unit Awards (2), Army Good Conduct Medals (4), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (2), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Infantry Badge, Military Free Fall Parachutist Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.
A memorial service for David will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Freedom, PA on Saturday the 16th of February, 2013 at 10:00am
