Melwood Named Employer of Year

Melwood was named Employer of the Year by Prince George's County at the county's annual Disability Awareness Month Awards Luncheon on Thursday, October 25.

"I am very honored to receive this award on behalf of Melwood and the people we serve," said Dana B. Stebbins, Melwood Executive Team Leader. "Our mission is to create jobs and opportunities for people with differing disabilities so they can have a good quality of life and we work toward our vision of a world where people with disabilities are fully included every day."

The event was part of the county's observance of National Disabilitiy Employment Awareness Month, a nation-wide celebration of the many and varied contributions of workers who have disabilities that takes place each October.

Founded in 1963 and based in Upper Marlboro:

  • Melwood employs 172 individuals with disabilities who work in Prince George's County and 291 individuals without disabilities who work in Prince George's County
  • Melwood employs a total of 1,100 persons with disabilities throughout the DC metro area
  • Melwood serves 2,400 individuals with disabilities through employment opportunities and other support and services
